about

This is a song that has always stirred my soul and touched the core of my identity. It is of our time and place and it was written by my partner in this life. It is a song that faces what we are up against directly and it asks us to go to the well and bring water. The magic word is a humble word but it is one of our strongest. Thank you, May. I love you endlessly.

This Artwork was done by our dear friend Penny Krebiehl, a Traverse City-based artist, farmer and permaculture educator. Penny is the founder of Little Artshram, O'k CSA and the Traverse City Permaculture Design Course. Penny lived on Earthwork Farm when I was a teenager and she is a special auntie to our daughter Iris now. She is like family to us.

"Please" was recorded and produced on the shore of Lake Michigan at Third Coast Recording Company, which will also soon be home to the the Lake Shore Music Academy. Immense thanks to Bill Chrysler for creating this fertile ground for creativity and to Joe Hettinga, Scott Pellegrom and Joe Sturgill for their brilliance and generosity. It was a great honor to make music with these fantastic musicians. What an amazing place! Sure to soon become a hub. The studio is open for business and the multi-media and educational wings are in progress.

The Lake Shore Music Academy is being created to offer musicians of every age, income and skill level a place to learn, enhance and create music. The facility will offer opportunities to learn not only instrumental and vocal music, it will also provide students a place learn how to work in a recording studio environment, learn video production techniques, how to use the internet to post and promote their music and much more. We understand that educating through music leads to improved reading, comprehension and math skills, empowering our students with the tools to become productive and contributing citizens.
