The first time I saw "My Family" performed was at a packed Seth & May show at the Ark in Ann Arbor. The depth of energy, community and warmth in that room was both inspiring and contagious. As Seth, May and the band ripped into "My Family" there wasn't a person in the room that wasn't smiling ear to ear feeling at home and alive in that incredible love of family that we were all so keenly aware of being a part of. What struck me later, though, was through the big smiles, hand claps, and sing-a- long chorus there's a depth to the song that speaks to something that I see as the heart of the broader Earthwork Music Collective. To speak with hope, love and a belief in the human spirit to create beautiful and resilient communities in the midst of the many challenges we face as communities, as a species, and as the Earth takes strength and resolve. Being a part of a family takes grace, accountability, humor, and unconditional love. Being friends with the weather takes a grounded humility and a passion for embracing this life in all of its sunshiny wonder and thunderstorm glory. This isn't easy work, friends. But together, it's the good and necessary work to be a part creating the world we want to leave our children and grandchildren. Happy to be on the journey with you and honored to share this version of one of our favorites. Much love!! -Chris Good
Friends with the Weather founders Seth Hendricks, Chris Good and David Hupp are joined on their upcoming debut album by many MI music luminaries including the core trio of producer/guitarist Seth Bernard, bassist Brennan Andes, and drummer Julian Allen. Joining Hendricks, Good, Hupp, and Andes for this acoustic session are longtime friends and collaborators Jacob Jolliff of Yonder Mountain String Band, Jacob Crouse of Mutual Kumquat, and Erin Zindle and Randall Moore or The Ragbirds. Several more tracks from this acoustic session will be released later in 2016.
The session was graciously hosted by Johnny Williams at Johnny's Speakeasy in Ann Arbor and filmed by Cory Robinson and Dave Schall. Recorded, mixed, and mastered by Dave Schall.
Collaborating in the visual realm on the concept of "family" is local Ann Arbor artist Michael Anne Erlewine presenting a painting entitled "The Power of Three."
